Turning video games into movies and TV shows isn't almost guaranteed to be a disaster anymore. While there's always going to be a small risk the end product isn't that great, someone somewhere appears to have figured out the secret formula in the last few years and everyone else has followed suit. Sonic works as a movie, The Last Of Us is shaping up to be what looks like a pretty great TV show, and even Ryan Reynolds playing a Pikachu was widely accepted and actually made for a pretty good movie.
Now it appears 2021's Game of the Year It Takes Two has been handpicked for the adaptation treatment. That's according to Variety which reports It Takes Two developer Hazelight Studios has teamed up with dj2 Entertainment to turn the hit co-op game into something more than, well, a game.

“Since it has a strong narrative with many crazy characters and just as crazy co-op action moments, the potential is huge for a great adaption to film or television,” Hazelight's Josef Fares said. That cast of characters includes Cody and May, their daughter Rose, and the lovable but sort of annoying book and host, Dr. Hakim. Not to mention Cutie the Elephant. If you've played It Takes Two then you'll know why the thought of reliving that in a different medium is somewhat harrowing.
The co-op game captured the hearts and the attention of more than three million people in 2021. Probably a lot more than that actually as its sales numbers haven't been officially updated since October. You can also play the game without actually having to own a copy.
