Is Darth Maul in the Obi-Wan Kenobi trailer? The full Obi-Wan Kenobi trailer, released on Star Wars Day 2022, gives a big look at what to expect from the upcoming Disney+ show. Although some of it repeats footage from the initial teaser, there are tantalizing new glimpses of Obi-Wan's life on and off Tatooine, his conflict with Reva and the Grand Inquisitor, his attempts to protect Luke Skywalker, and, of course, the return of Darth Vader. But alongside all of that, there may be hints of another Sith — or at least, former Sith — returning as well.
Darth Maul and Obi-Wan Kenobi have a storied history in Star Wars, dating from the first duel in Star Wars: Episode I — The Phantom Menace right up to the final fight in Star Wars Rebels, both of which, funnily enough, ended with Obi-Wan seemingly killing Maul, with only the second being permanent. Because of that history and Obi-Wan Kenobi's timeline — right at the midpoint between the prequel and original trilogies — then there has been speculation of whether or not Maul will return.

Whether that actually happens or not remains to be seen but, despite the exciting new footage, that is not Maul in the Obi-Wan Kenobi trailer. At around the 0:55 mark in the trailer there's a shot of a mysterious character fighting Obi-Wan, and this unknown opponent has a similarly horned head to Maul. From the brief shot then this is seemingly a Zabrak, the same species as Maul, but not actually the character himself based upon the skin tone — Maul's is a much darker, deeper red — and the quick glimpses of the face don't reveal the same tattoos as Maul has. Similarly, the attire too looks decidedly un-Maul like.
