iQOO is bringing its iQOO 9 series of flagships to India soon and so far, we know that there will be a regular iQOO 9 and a beefed-up top-of-the-range iQOO 9 Pro. Both these phones rely on the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chip in China and only vary in other areas such as cameras, battery, display and more. India, however, is going to witness a difference in terms of the chipset as well. Based on a new leak, the iQOO 9 in India is likely to use last year’s flagship Qualcomm chip.
iQOO has so far been promoting the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chip as the torchbearer for the iQOO 9 series. However, this leak from 91Mobiles suggests that the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 will be limited to the iQOO 9 Pro whereas the standard iQOO 9 will rely on the Snapdragon 888+ chip. The report also suggests a starting price of around Rs. 43,000 in India. There will be a few upgrades in other areas too, says the leak.
Other than the Snapdragon 888+ chip, the iQOO 9 in India will have a slightly smaller 6.5-inch 120Hz AMOLED display instead of the Chinese variant’s 6.7-inch display. The Indian model is said to offer a 1000Hz touch sampling rate instead of the 360Hz rate on the Chinese model.
Additionally, the primary camera sensor will be a 48MP sensor instead of the 50MP sensor. The battery capacity will also be slightly lower at 4350mAh instead of the 4700mAh unit on the Chinese models. The compact body is also said to be lighter at 200 grams.
Note that iQOO has not confirmed any of this and hence, you should wait for an official update from the brand. That said, it is not surprising to see the standard iQOO 9 using last year’s specs, given that iQOO 7 also followed the same formula. The iQOO 7 came used the Snapdragon 870 chip that was similar to the Snapdragon 865
