Twitter recently got rebranded to X last week, and that would only mean that Android smartphones and iPhone owners would eventually have to update their apps to get the new changes. However, iPhone models that are still flaunting the old Twitter logo showing a bird are being ‘cashed in’ as collector’s items, as some of these devices are going for thousands of dollars at online stores. One version, in particular, was listed at $25,000, and if you thought that this is an outrageous asking price, there have been occasions where people have paid significantly more in the past.
The new changes to X well rolled out to iPhone owners through an update provided by the Apple App Store. While it would be prudent to experience these new changes and get the latest and greatest features, some individuals are refusing to move forward. Instead, they are using this opportunity to list their iPhones on eBay, and with the old Twitter logo still present, they are charging tons of money. As Supercharged points out, a similar practice was observed when the popular game Flappy Bird was removed from the App Store and Google Play Store for being too addictive.
Sure enough, smartphones that still had the game installed started getting listed on websites like eBay, with one example involving an iPhone 5 that was being sold for $100,000. On this occasion, getting an old Twitter logo on an iPhone for $25,000 is not an outrageous ask if you compare the previous instances. However, at the time of writing, the aforementioned iPhone 11 Pro Max listing was removed from eBay ‘by the seller because there was an error in the listing.’ We are not sure if the same iPhone will be re-listed, but we will keep our readers updated.
