The sequel to 2016 action RPG Hyper Light Drifter, Hyper Light Breaker has been announced.
Developed by Heart Machine, Hyper Light Breaker is targeting a Steam Early Access Launch in Spring 2023.
The game will shift from the original game’s 2D perspective to a new 3D one. While only a brief amount of gameplay footage, which is labelled as “pre-alpha”, was shown on Thursday, the game appears to have translated the original’s bright, frenetic art style to a larger 3D game seamlessly.

The game was announced during a live stream to celebrate the sixth anniversary of the original game. Hyper Light Breaker will feature a “brand new 3D world to explore” according to the game’s Steam page.
“Enter the Overgrowth, a new land in the world of Hyper Light. Play alone or with friends to explore massive biomes, defeat brutal monsters, create new builds, survive the mysterious Crowns and overthrow the almighty Abyss King in this action rogue-lite adventure from the creators of Hyper Light Drifter,” reads a short description of the game released by the developers.
The game will feature a hub area known as “The Settlement” which players will visit between each trip to the larger open world.
Players will be able to “Help a settlement flourish, bringing with it colourful characters and permanent upgrades” according to the game’s Steam page.
Gearbox Publishing is partnering with Heart Machine to publish Hyper Light Breaker. It’s currently unknown if the game will release on platforms other than PC.
