Hugh Grant took to social media to respond to recent reports that he is in talks to play the 14th Doctor in Doctor Who. The Love Actually and Paddington 2 star became the latest British actor to be rumored to take on the role, alongside Danny Dyer, T'Nia Miller, and previous Doctor, David Tennant. The 14th Doctor will take over from current Doctor, Jodie Whittaker, following her departure in fall 2022.
Doctor Who is approaching the end of an era, as five years since her initial announcement, Whittaker will step away from the show alongside current showrunner Chris Chibnall in a special episode that will celebrate the centenary of the BBC. Following Chibnall's departure, former showrunner Russell T Davies will take up his previous position once more, starting with the show's 60th anniversary celebrations and following into the subsequent seasons. With Davies' return, viewers speculate who'll play the Doctor next, with Grant's name recently trending online following reports by British newspapers that he is in negotiations to take on the role of the Time Lord. However, the actor has now taken to social media to address the reports himself.
