A Pokémon fan with an amazingly dedicated mother has shown their huge cross stitch tapestry showcasing every species up to Generation 5, with the piece taking eight years to complete. This equates to 649 unique Pokémon species, including many fan favorites like Pikachu and Charizard.
Cross stitch is a form of embroidery sewing which takes time and patience. As the name suggests, each individual stitch is in the shape of a cross, sewn flush to each other in order to build up color and create images. Because each stitch creates a vaguely square patch of color, the hobby can be likened to an old-school version of pixel art. It's a crossover that gives gamers with a passion for textiles an interesting artistic avenue to explore, as it is possible to replicate pixel sprites and the like with a high degree of accuracy. Gaming fans have been using cross stitch as a creative way to showcase their favorite games for some time, with one player even catching Naughty Dog's eye for their impressive Last of Us embroidery.

The mother of Reddit user HerenJames has impressed Pokémon fans by stitching 649 Pokémon sprites as they appeared in Generation 5, an endeavor that has taken eight years to complete. The enormous final project is 57″ by 71.5″, or 145cm by 182cm, and is comprised of a whopping 798,000 stitches in 234 different colors. The finished artwork has rightfully drawn a large amount of praise online, with fans suitably impressed with the undertaking.
