Gengar, which only evolves through trading, is actually obtainable in without any outside assistance. Part of the original Generation of Pokémon, Gengar has been a fan-favorite for decades. However, obtaining it in-game has often proved difficult for some due to its evolutionary requirements.
Haunter can evolve into Gengar at any level, and will do so immediately after being traded (or, in the case of, are given a Link Cable). This is unless the Haunter in question is given an Everstone to hold, but for many players doing such a thing would defeat the purpose. Although with that being said, a cruel in-game trade in presented players with this precise scenario, which was understandably an immense disappointment. Likewise, nothing prevents a random (and likely time-consuming) Surprise Trade from having the same outcome, meaning that those without friends to trade with can struggle to obtain Gengar.

Blossom, an NPC found at Levincia’s battle court in, offers to trade a Haunter in exchange for a Pincurchin. And unlike the similar trade in, Blossom’s ‘Hauntikins’ does not hold an Everstone. As a result, the Haunter does indeed evolve into a Gengar, much to the delight of players.
It is also worth noting that Pincurchin can be found in ’s East Province (Area Two). As this area borders Levincia, the trade is fairly quick and easy to complete; a fact that is doubtlessly appreciated by many players.
As a Haunter, Hauntikins’ Ability is naturally Levitate, although it should be noted that Gengar has Cursed Body instead. This gives Gengar a chance to disable any damaging move that hits it.
