PUBG: Battlegrounds, the PC and console version of the battle royale shooter series has seen a tremendous increase in its profit after switching to free-to-play mode in January. The developer Krafton has published its earnings report for the first quarter of the year 2022 on Friday. As per the official report, Krafton has shared $405.7 million USD in quarterly revenue out of which $241.9 million USD is the operating profit and 190.2 million USD is the net profit. Krafton in its official statement, said, “This was a record high in quarterly revenue for KRAFTON, which was up 17.8% quarter-over-quarter and up 13.5% year-over-year.”
Among several other factors that contributed to the quarterly growth of PUBG: Battlegrounds, one of the major reasons is the launch of Free-to-play mode. The official report says that average monthly active users (MAU) nearly tripled compared to Q4 2021 after PUBG: BATTLEGROUNDS’ move to free-to-play (F2P) in January 2022. As a result, PUBG: BATTLEGROUNDS PC sales recorded 61 percent year over year growth to $82.3 million, while console sales increased 124% QoQ and 274% YoY. Similarly, PUBG: MOBILE too recorded revenue of $307.1 million USD during Q1 2022, which was up 30% QoQ and up 5% YoY.

Hence, Krafton, has seen a tremendous quarterly growth after switching to PUBG: Battlegrounds to free-to-play.
Also the popularity of PUBG: Mobile (which is also free-to-play) probably helped Krafton as the game has earned $307.1 million in revenue in the first quarter of 2022, which is up almost by 5 percent year over year.
