On this day, the Earth and the Sun are separated by nearly 152.1 million kilometres, which is around 1.67 percent more than the mean distance between Earth and the Sun. The mean Earth-Sun separation is 149.6 million kilometres, which is calculated as one Astronomical Unit (AI).

Likewise the farthest distance between Earth and the Sun is known as Aphelion and there is a day when the planet and our giant star are the closest, which is known as Perihelion.
