McDonald’s has accidentally released promo pics for the Super Mario Bros. Movie that show Princess Peach for the first time.
Nintendo and Universal Pictures must be pretty pleased with the reaction to the Super Mario Bros. Movie trailer on Thursday, with millions of views and relatively little in the way of fan complaints – despite how unpopular a choice Chris Pratt was for the voice of Mario.
Mind you, he didn’t say much, so there’s not a lot to judge so far. Nevertheless, it’s all seeming pretty positive, with a visual design that sticks very close to the game and lots of recognisable characters, including Bowser, Kamek, Toad, and Luigi. But one prominent character that hasn’t been seen, until now, is Princess Peach.
We know she’s definitely in the film, voiced by Anya Taylor-Joy from The Queen’s Gambit and Peaky Blinders, but she wasn’t anywhere to be seen in the first trailer.
However, McDonald’s seems to have accidentally uploaded promo images that feature her before they were supposed to. They quickly took them down but, as ever, fans on Twitter were there to grab a copy before they did.
Like the rest of the designs, she looks very similar to how she does in the games, just with slightly more human features and proportions.
What role she plays in the film’s story is currently a mystery, especially given how she spends most of the games being a prisoner of Bowser.
Other characters that are known to be in the movie, but haven’t been seen yet, include Seth Rogen as Donkey Kong, Fred Armisen as Cranky Kong, and Sebastian Maniscalco as Spike.
Since there are a few characters named Spike in the Mario universe, it’s not entirely clear what that role is but it seems most likely to be a reference to Wrecking Crew, an obscure early
