It's no secret that the relationship between Harley Quinn and Joker is iconic and demented in DC Comics. The two split up in recent years, allowing Harley to strike out on her own with great success. However, in Joker: Last Laugh #3, it's clear that Harley had doubts about the relationship for a while and saved herself a lot of trouble by refusing to be part of some of Joker's longterm plans.
In 2001, DC published the six-issue series Joker: Last Laugh. It focuses on the destruction the titular villain wreaks on the world when he is told he has a tumor in his brain that will kill him. Naturally, Joker wants to go out with a bang and he begins plotting things he needs to do before his life is over. This includes a desire to change up his relationship with Harley Quinn.

Joker: Last Laugh #3 has the creative team of Chuck Dixon, Scott Beatty, Walter McDaniel, Tom McCraw, Digital Chameleon, and Willie Schubert. Within the issue, Harley calls Oracle following Joker's bust out from Slabside Penitentiary. During the call Oracle assumes that Harley is objecting to simply marriage, but Joker's plans go beyond that. He wants an heir and plans to use his main squeeze to get one. Thankfully, despite her unhealthy obsession with him, Harley Quinn sees all of this as a problem and seeks help from Gotham's finest to keep her safe from his clutches.
Joker's bucket list included «marry Harley» before it was crossed out and replaced with «kill Harley.» Having an heir with her was also on the list, though it also had a note about inquiring about adoption from Batman.
