Hammerwatch 2, a sequel to the million-selling hack ‘n’ slash action adventure has been announced, the co-op dungeon crawling coming to PS5, Xbox Series X|S, PS4, Xbox One, Switch and PC.
Nearly a decade on from the original game’s release, which revived the classic feel of the old Gauntlet games of the 80s and 90s, Hammerwatch II promises “an improved, richer Hammerwatch gameplay experience with all-new immersive environments to explore.” At its heart though, the game will still be about battling through dungeons and working your way to challenging boss battles, all with support for up to four-player co-op.
The dynamism that is promised comes from a world that now features a day/night cycle and dynamic weather that could transform the tone of your adventure. Additionally, while it’s still pixel art, there’s a lot more nuance to the graphical style on show, I feel.
The game will feature five classes – Paladin, Ranger, Rogue, Wizard, and Warlock – with the ability to customise your appearance, level up and unlock powerful new abilities and skills as you play.
Publisher Modus Games haven’t given details on the release date or pricing of the standard edition, but have announced that the Hammerwatch II: The Chronicles Edition is now available for preorder at $39.99 and will be available both physically and and digitally at launch. The Chronicles Edition bundles in the original remastered Hammerwatch and additional character colour palettes, facial items and a character voice pack.
