343 Industries multiplayer lead Andrew Witts is stepping down after three years with the company. This leaves the position vacant during Halo Infinite's ongoing development, and during a time in which player dissatisfaction with the online offerings is rising.
Witts announced his departure the same day that Halo Infinite's season 2 details were finally revealed. However, it also comes as the game also continues to lose players due to the lack of content, hinting at possible issues behind the scenes.

Witts revealed the news on his Twitter account in the early hours of Saturday, stating that he had just wrapped up his final week at 343 Industries. He thanked fans for their feedback during his time with the company, which was instrumental in changing Halo Infinite's course after its unpopular reveal in 2020.
As well as working at 343 for three years, Witts has also held positions at ArenaNet, Ubisoft, and more. It's not yet known where he is moving to, but he did say he is taking a break before what comes next. While some seem concerned by his departure, it is worth noting that figures leaving a game's development after release is not abnormal in the gaming industry.
With 343 transitioning from one multiplayer lead to another, that could explain the delay in online content in Halo Infinite. While we have no idea who is taking over from Witts, we're likely to find out soon now that he's wrapped up his final shift, meaning development may go smoother as they settle into the position.
Halo Infinite is out now, and is available to play on Xbox consoles and PC. It is available at no extra cost via Game Pass.
