Hardcore Grand Theft Auto fan DJ Pooh showered Rockstar Games with praise during a recent interview, likening the company to legendary hip hop label Def Jam. DJ Pooh made his GTA allegiance known last year when he made a cameo alongside Dr. Dre for the GTA Online The Contract expansion, which added heaps of new story and gameplay content, even confirming that GTA V protagonist Michael De Santa is still alive.
Rockstar, despite being embroiled in controversy over the past few years, is generally considered to be one of the best, most consistent games developers. Although many casual gamers might only know Rockstar for its work on the Grand Theft Auto and Red Dead Redemption games, the company's portfolio is much broader than that. Prior to GTA 5, Rockstar made a number of hit games, most notably Bully and LA Noire, which both offered unique gameplay elements and well-written, clever narratives. The developer also took over the development of the Max Payne franchise from Remedy after its second installment, although Rockstar won't be working on the Max Payne remakes.

The prestige associated with the once-prolific studio is felt by hip-hop legend DJ Pooh, who recently commented on the Rockstar brand in an interview with BET. In the interview, DJ Pooh compared Rockstar to Def Jam, a label that has represented and continues to represent some of the biggest names in hip-hop and R&B. DJ Pooh commented that customers would buy a record simply "because it had [the] Def Jam [logo] on it", as the label could be treated as a stamp of quality.
