At long last, developer Rockstar Games has unleashed details about Grand Theft Auto 5's upgrades for PS5 and Xbox Series X/S platforms. Despite the poor reception to GTA 5's PS5 gameplay trailer, there does exist an air of excitement about the title's new-gen enhancements. The nearly 10-year-old game started showing its age quite some time ago; as such, now seems as good of a time as any for it to receive a few graphical and performance boosts.
Series creator Rockstar Games first unveiled its plans for the current-gen version of GTA 5 and Grand Theft Auto Online almost two years ago during Sony's PS5 reveal event. The announcement trailer offered a sneak peek at improved visuals and ended with the promise of a 2021 launch window. While Rockstar and publisher Take-Two Interactive later attached a November 11, 2021 due date to the new-gen port, release plans were eventually postponed to March 2022. For a time, it seemed as though GTA 5's PS5 and Xbox Series X iterations would receive yet another delay.

Fortunately, those looking forward to the upgrades can cast aside their concerns — Grand Theft Auto 5 remains on track for a March 2022 launch. Rockstar Games has confirmed the PS5 and Xbox Series X/S versions release on Tuesday, March 15. The blog post from Rockstar Games additionally outlines what the enhancements themselves will entail. On the current-gen hardware, GTA 5 and GTA Online players can expect new graphics modes that support up to 4K visuals, performance of up to 60fps, HDR options, ray-tracing, improved draw distances, enhanced textures, and faster loading times.
