Obsidian has finally set an official release for its early access survival game, Grounded. The game quietly began development alongside The Outer Worlds and was officially announced in 2019, roughly a year after Microsoft acquired the studio. Since launching into early access in 2020, the content updates in Grounded’s roadmap added new environments, enemies, and more to the experience.
Inspired by films like Honey, I Shrunk the Kids, and A Bug’s Life, Grounded drops shrunken players into the middle of a backyard and challenges them to survive within its hostile environment. Though based on family-friendly Disney movies, the hazards of the backyard’s wildlife will pose a real threat to the player’s survival as hordes of insects and other apex predators won’t take kindly to their presence. Luckily, players can explore the vast backyard and harvest resources to craft everything they need to endure the yard’s trials and stave off starvation and dehydration. Players may also team up via an online cooperative multiplayer mode to take on Grounded’s various dangers, like bee swarms and mosquitoes.
