is coming out once again on the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. Many titles have free upgrades, but some were skeptical that Rockstar Games would do anything less than offer up the enhanced version at full price, especially since the company didn’t mention any sort of upgrade path. However, the upgrade price was revealed for both platforms when the pre-orders went live and while neither console owner has to pay $60 again, there is a discrepancy between platforms.
The PS5 upgrade price for PS4 owners is split up into two costs. The campaign upgrade is $9.99 and is free for PlayStation Plus subscribers, but will only be free for three months. The upgrade charge for the campaign is only a limited-time deal, too, as it will jump up to $39.99 on June 14, 2022. It’s likely that the separate standalone will be $19.99 after that date, according to the Xbox listing (since it is not free on that platform and shows the full price).
However, Xbox owners aren’t getting off as easy. The story mode and upgrade is a $19.99 bundle and is being sold separately for $9.99. is not free for Xbox Live Gold members or Game Pass subscribers and is also currently $10 off, meaning it will be $19.99 until June 14.
According to Rockstar, these upgrades will feature multiple graphics modes and visual enhancements, which is likely being used to justify the fee. Paid upgrades pop up now and again and are slowly becoming normalized. The last two installments and Sony’s first-party games from onward are among some of the titles that will charge a fee for those with the last-gen versions who want to get the native PS5 one. The was also sold for $10 for players who owned the PS4 version of either game in the bundle.
