With the upcoming Chrono Cross: The Radical Dreamers Edition ready to arrive soon, Square Enix has released a collection of new images to compare the remaster with the original title. These new Chrono Cross screenshot comparisons include the in-game graphics, as well as some of the illustrations that accompany the title and act as portrait art during dialogues.
This new selection of screenshots comes courtesy of the Square Enix Japan website, where the developer often shares its latest news for content not deemed major enough to spread worldwide. However, with Chrono Cross: The Radical Dreamers Edition launching soon, it is strange to see Square Enix not eagerly push these comparison images to fans everywhere.
Chrono Cross Remaster Confirmed for PS4, Xbox, and Steam
The collection of images is limited, but they do showcase how the remaster compares to the original across a series of different gameplay moments with varying levels of graphical fidelity. One of the most notable improvements interestingly comes with the illustrations for characters, which only appear in-game as portrait art during conversations. It's an admittedly small change, but it can go a long way to making Chrono Cross characters and their designs stand out on HD consoles the can output at higher resolutions than the PlayStation that the original title released on.
Another important comparison that stands out from the rest is the issue of how the font will look in the Radical Dreamers Edition, especially when held against the original.
