Rockstar Games has confirmed that Grand Theft Auto VI is currently in development.
In a statement posted on the company’s website, the studio has addressed concerns from players that there has been no news on the sixth game in the hugely successful series.
“With the unprecedented longevity of GTA V, we know many of you have been asking us about a new entry in the Grand Theft Auto series,” the statement reads.
“With every new project we embark on, our goal is always to significantly move beyond what we have previously delivered – and we are pleased to confirm that active development for the next entry in the Grand Theft Auto series is well underway.
“We look forward to sharing more as soon as we are ready, so please stay tuned to the Rockstar Newswire for official details.
“On behalf of our entire team, we thank you all for your support and cannot wait to step into the future with you.”
Take-Two’s financial guidance posted last month may have alluded to plans to release Grand Theft Auto 6 by March 2024, an analyst has suggested.
In January, Rockstar’s parent company revealed its intention to acquire Zynga in a $12.7 billion deal.
As part of the announcement, the company forecast that its compound annual growth rate through 2024 will be 14%.
As spotted by Axios, this led industry analysts to believe the publisher is planning a major release for its fiscal year ending on March 31, 2024.
Cowen’s Doug Creutz said the guidance equated to some $9 billion in consumer spending, pointing to “a likely GTA 6 launch in FY24.”
