Grand Theft Auto 5 has now sold over 160 million units worldwide, with 5 million of those sales coming in the last quarter of 2021. The series as a whole has now also eclipsed 370 million units since its inception. This is unsurprising as the franchise has become somewhat of a household name since Grand Theft Auto 3 came out and laid the foundation for many open-world games to come.

The success of the game can also be attributed to the fact that Grand Theft Auto 5 has lasted 3 console generations so far. PS5 PlayStation Plus subscribers will soon be able to download Grand Theft Auto 5 for free. The promotion will last for 3 months following the game's release on PS5 and Xbox Series X/S on March 15. This will likely encourage fans to continue playing the game on the latest console generation.
Rockstar has now finally announced that it is working on Grand Theft Auto 6.
