A listing on the Taiwanese rating board seems to suggest that Gotham Knights will only launch across PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S platforms, effectively skipping last-gen hardware. Gotham Knights' DC FanDome 2020 world premiere trailer didn't specify platform release plans, but most onlookers assumed it would count as a cross-gen title given the then-imminent launch of the PS5 and Xbox Series consoles. Publisher WB Games has since cleared the air, though, with the game's official website currently bearing logos for last-gen and current-gen platforms.
WB Games originally planned to launch the new title in 2021. However, developer WB Games Montréal's need for more production time significantly delayed the long-awaited project. Its fall due date now seems set in stone to the delight of many a fan. Not since 2013's Batman: Arkham Origins has the Montréal development team helmed a AAA title, but the crew isn't playing in Rocksteady Studios' backyard this time around. Instead, Gotham Knights takes place in its own universe, one wholly separate from the events of the Batman: Arkham series.

A since-removed Gamerating.org listing on the Taiwanese rating board, relayed by Twisted Voxel, made mention of only the PS5 and Xbox Series X/S versions of Gotham Knights. The assumption, while tenuous, is that WB Games' next major DC-branded title will not launch across last-gen consoles. Such a move would mean abandoning the PS4 and Xbox One iterations near the end of development, since they were previously announced and remain listed on the official Gotham Knights website.
