Fans who have been waiting for a GoldenEye 007 remake now appear to have a reason for the lack of information surrounding the rumored project: Russia's invasion of Ukraine. The project has been rumored for some time after a GoldenEye 007 Xbox achievement list leaked online around the new year.
Prior to the leaked achievement list, it seemed that any hope of the classic FPS title getting a modern update was snuffed out after Nintendo reportedly canceled it. In spite of this, the unfinished title somehow managed to leak online and further stoked fan excitement for the potential of GoldenEye on modern consoles. Then there were rumors that indicated the project might not be as dead as it was in early 2021. An industry insider claimed that a current-gen remake would soon be announced back in February and this anticipation was built upon a month later when it was discovered that the trademark for Goldeneye 007 was renewed. Since then, however, there has been little to no news regarding the remake and now a reason has been given.
