First released in 2020, Genshin Impact allows players to journey across the fantasy world of Teyvat completely free of charge. However, while the base game is free, a slot machine mechanic forces gamers to pay real money for a chance to unlock new characters, weapons and resources. Genshin Impact's microtransactions are essentially gambling, with one pull having a random chance to unlock the desired item based on pure luck. While many players pay little mind to this mechanic, since it is entirely optional, others see it as a manipulative way for miHoYo to make money.
