Genshin Impact contains many mysteries surrounding Paimon, the Traveler's loyal companion, and the Aranara race of plantlike forest spirits. Paimon's origins remain shrouded in mystery, but Genshin Impact continues to hint at potential lore implications as new updates release.
After encountering the Aranara race in Genshin Impact and completing a series of quests, Reddit user u/Gregamonster compiled information regarding the interactions between Paimon and the spirits. Various characters throughout Genshin Impact's main story and side quests noticed that Paimon is not a normal human, including the Aranara race. In fact, Kaedehara Kazuha once said Paimon has «the essence of the stars.» The Aranara share a similar sentiment for Paimon and simply refer to her as an entity rather than a human like the Traveler.

Aranara call humans «Nara» whereas Paimon is directly referred to by her name according to u/Gregamonster. Arana, an Aranara NPC, refers to the village children as Nara as well. Although human characters within Genshin Impact simply accept Paimon as a normal person, the Aranara seem to place emphasis on distinguishing Paimon from other humans and races. As a result, some players began to infer that the Aranara must know Paimon is not human like normal Teyvat inhabitants.
Paimon is theorized to be a Moon Sister or a reincarnation due to her unique, cosmic appearance.
