One clever Halo Infinite player was able to take control of the usually unrideable Sabre vehicle in the upcoming Forge Mode with a neat vehicle-wielding trick. The FSS-1000 Sabre aircraft was first introduced in 2010’s Halo Reach, where it was utilized by the UNSC during the battle of Reach that took place years before the story of Master Chief and his struggles against the Covenant and the Banished. While the Halo series has allowed players to commandeer vehicles from all factions, the Sabre was only drivable during a single flight-based mission in Halo Reach, and a similar mission in 2012’s Halo 4 involving the Broadsword fighter.
The Sabre also isn’t selectable in Halo’s signature multiplayer modes, but players could spawn the aircraft in Halo Reach’s Forge Mode once it was re-released as part of the remastered Halo: The Master Chief Collection in 2019. Forge was introduced in Halo 3 and has remained popular, allowing players to edit existing maps to create their own battlefields for use in custom multiplayer matches. Some players have used the updated Forge modes in installments like Halo 5: Guardians to craft clever tributes to movies like Star Wars, and one player even recreated the stage shown off in Halo Infinite’s initial gameplay demo a couple of years ago. Some players have also used Forge Mode to pilot existing Halo vehicles in new ways, including flying the massive but normally grounded M313 Heavy Recovery Vehicle (or “Elephant” as it’s more affectionately called) in Halo 3.
