HBO Max has released an official trailer for Gaming Wall Street, an upcoming documentary on the January 2021 GameStop/Reddit stock drama. The film will debut March 3 on the streaming service.
Narrated by Kieran Culkin (Succession), the two-part documentary series will explore the 2021 short squeeze of GameStop, and «how a group of armchair investors and online vigilantes ultimately helped expose the dark underbelly of Wall Street.» Check out the trailer below--and click over here if you need a refresher on the whole saga that feels much longer than a single year ago.
«I wanted to create a compelling documentary about a niche online community which grew into the movement behind GameStop and momentarily shifted the balance of power on Wall Street,» said director Tobias Deml in a release. «I saw a great need for access to education about investing. We have the opportunity to right a decades-old wrong created by powerful firms that have been gaming the system to the detriment of society.»
The HBO Max documentary is far from the only film or project about the incident in the pipeline. A trailer was also recently released for GameStop: Rise of the Players, which is directed by Jonah Tulis, who previously made the movie Console Wars that documented the battle between Nintendo and Sega in the '90s.
GameStop is now being run by Ryan Cohen, the billionaire founder of the pet-food company Chewy.
