The official One Piece Film: Red Twitter account revealed the new “Battle Wear” character designs for the Straw Hat pirate on Wednesday. Series creator Eiichiro Oda created the new designs himself, which are supposed to resemble a “rock x pirates” type theme.
Another set of Straw Hat character designs were revealed during Shueisha's Jump Festa '22 event in December, featuring the Straw Hat crew in what looks to be more casual designs.
New One Piece Film: Red Project Coming 2022
One Piece Film: Red was first announced in November, commemorating the One Piece anime’s 1000th episode release. Oda will serve as a producer and supervisor on the film. As signified by the scar on the film’s logo, Shanks will play a big role in the upcoming feature. The leader of the Red Hair Pirates has not been prominent in the series narrative for several years, and Film: Red looks to be his big return.
The film will introduce a new female character, and though nothing is known about her yet, her design seems to indicate that she has a connection to the Sky Island Residents. The girl has a mysterious connection to Shanks, and Oda claimed that he conceived the character to serve as a departure from the older male characters featured in the last few films.
The movie will be directed by Goro Taniguchi, and Kuroiwa Tsutomu will return as scriptwriter. Taniguchifirst worked on the series as the director for the 1998 OVA, One Piece: Defeat The Pirate Ganzack but is best known for his work on the Gundam franchise as well as Code Geass. Tsutomu returns to the series after having worked on the screenplay for 2016's One Piece Film: Gold and the Heart of Gold TV special tie-in.
