Game of Thrones star John Bradley says that the show's finale was never going to meet fans' expectations. First airing in 2011 on HBO, Game of Thrones ran for eight seasons, most of which were critically acclaimed. Based on the A Song of Ice and Fire fantasy book series by author George R. R. Martin, the show chronicles several ruling families' battles to gain control of the Iron Thrones and rule of the Seven Kingdoms of Westeros.
By the time Game of Thrones entered its last season, the show was pulling in over 10 million viewers per episode with the finale watched by a record-breaking 13.6 million. While the show had become one of the most popular and generation-defining TV shows of the last ten years, the final season also earned some of the worst reviews from both audiences and critics. The finale, in particular, is widely considered to have been one of the biggest letdowns in recent TV memory. A spin-off, House of the Dragon, is scheduled to release at some point this year.

In a new interview with Variety to promote his upcoming film Moonfall, Bradley, who played Jon Snow's best friend Samwell Tarly, claims that the finale was never going to live up to what fans expected. Bradley explains that the show meant so much to so many people that crafting an ending that was going to please everybody was essentially an impossible task. He hopes, however, that in a few years, fans will come to see the finale in a different light. Check out Bradley's full comment below:
