Emulators for both the Game Boy and Game Boy Advance have reportedly leaked, suggesting reports last year that Nintendo is planning to bring Game Boy games to the Switch were true.
Evidence of the emulators, which should allow Game Boy, Game Boy Color, and Game Boy Advance games to run on Switch hardware, was first revealed by Twitter user Trash_Bandatcoot. Footage of the emulators running on Switch hardware has also been posted by several users, but the content is being taken down almost as quickly as it appears.
Four files were apparently leaked via 4chan, which contained a Game Boy emulator called Hiyoko and a Game Boy Advance emulator called Sloop. Both are throught to be developed by Nintendo Europe Research & Development (NERD).
There is some skepticism over the legitimacy of this leak. Well-respected YouTuber Modern Vintage Gamer pointed out in a tweet that some of the leaked files contain reference to the EZFlash cartridges, which Nintendo is very unlikely to ever acknowledge officially.
If these emulators are official, it's expected Nintendo will at some point announce Game Boy titles as a new feature of its Switch Online service. They would join the existing range of NES, SNES, Nintendo 64, and Sega Genesis titles available through the service while offering Switch owners another incentive to sign up for a subscription.
