Legendary filmmaker Francis Ford Coppola has revealed his favorite scene from his 1972 multi-Oscar-winning crime epic The Godfather. Often cited as one of the greatest films of all time, The Godfather is currently celebrating its 50th anniversary. The film opened the door to two more sequels, with The Godfather Part II frequently cited as an example of a sequel being superior to its predecessor. While that argument remains a matter of opinion, there’s no doubt that the second Godfather film is widely beloved — unlike the third often-maligned entry.
Over the course of the past 50 years, The Godfather has also become synonymous with the mafia/crime family drama, to the point where the film is referenced or mentioned in countless other productions within the genre. And beyond the quotes and homages to Coppola’s masterpiece, The Godfather also played a major role in taking the careers of Al Pacino and Marlon Brando into all new directions. In fact, the entire franchise became so synonymous with Coppola’s work that his post-Godfather years have often been a struggle to escape the series' looming shadow. The 82-year-old continues to direct, and his latest film already looks to be a star-studded affair, with Cate Blanchett, Zendaya, and Michelle Pfeiffer reportedly on board.
