Combat, burst, primal, there have been a lot of SMGs in Fortnite since it launched. For most of you though, none of the pretenders that have come since have been able to hold a candle to the original. That's why confirmation the OG SMG has finally been unvaulted has gone down a storm with what appears to be the vast majority of you.
Hypex has been one of many Fortnite-dedicated Twitter accounts to confirm the good news, clarifying that the iconic weapon can once again be found on the island in all rarities up to and including Legendary. It's the first time the original SMG has been made available in Fortnite since the first season of chapter three. For those of you who don't have the dates on which Fortnite chapters begin and end marked on your calendars (what's wrong with you?), that was all the way back in December 2021, the same season during which Spider-Man swung into the game.

SMGs are naturally the weapon of choice for players who prefer their combat to be in close quarters. Doing little to no damage from a distance, SMGs are better used when you come face to face with an enemy and are potentially better than shotguns depending on the type of player you are. While shotguns don't require you to be quite as accurate as an SMG, the machine gun has a far quicker fire rate, allowing you to do more damage in a short period of time if every bullet lands.
