The 2022 action thriller Fistful of Vengeance acts as a sequel to the 2019 streaming series Wu Assassins, making the budding franchise the best successor to Marvel's Daredevil that Netflix has. Wu Assassins set up a new fantasy universe and both its franchise-building and finessed martial arts action garnered it significant praise upon its debut. Fistful of Vengeance continues both elements despite its more truncated 95-minute runtime, while bringing new elements into play as well.
Over the course of 10 episodes, Wu Assassins season 1 sees San Francisco chef Kai Jin (Iko Uwais) discover that he's the new embodiment of an ancient, supernatural warrior known as the titular Wu Assassin. Kai is tasked with defeating the five Wu Warlords, while the follow-up film Fistful of Vengeance sends him and his friends on a mission of revenge, as they simultaneously save the world once more. Many of the key aspects that both entries in the Wu Assassins franchise excel at were also great strengths of Netflix's celebrated Marvel series Daredevil.

Debuting on Netflix in 2015, Daredevil focused on blind New York City attorney Matt Murdock (Charlie Cox). By night, Matt becomes the masked vigilante first dubbed The Devil of Hell's Kitchen before acquiring his proper name of Daredevil. After a three-season run and a crossover mini-series with other Marvel heroes in The Defenders, Daredevil came to an end as did the other Marvel-Netflix shows as a result of the launch of Disney+.
