The Resident Evil games are currently enjoying something of a resurgence, with remakes and new entries a-plenty, keeping the franchise fresh for newcomers and older fans. As one of the most influential horror games of all time, the first installment in the Capcom series pretty much set the bar for subsequent releases back in the 1990s, and it's still influencing studios to this day. Not surprisingly then, some people in the fan community have been busy working on a remake of the first game, with a potential 2022 release date being announced.
In a YouTube video uploaded a couple of weeks ago, the channel Residence of Evil has showcased eight minutes of the Resident Evil fan remake, which takes the original game and rebuilds it entirely in the modern RE engine. The footage shows the incredible work that has gone into the project so far, showing the game from the now-standard third-person perspective that the franchise is currently known for. While there is no definite release date yet, the video does hope for it to be launched this year.

Perhaps one of the most intriguing things about this remake, other than the visuals and the fact that it's a complete reworking of the 1996 classic game, is that the creators have included the Raccoon City Police Department seen in Resident Evil 2. Ordinarily, the first game starts with Jill and/or Chris entering the Spencer Mansion after their helicopter crashes nearby. However, in this iteration, it looks like players will start off in a sort of prologue whereby they will get to explore RPD, which includes police officer NPCs milling about the place, before they hitch a ride with Brad on the helicopter.
