The Final Fantasy IX remake has yet to be announced, but it seems like the development of the game is almost done, as the remake looks ready for release, according to rumors.
Speaking on the ResetERA forums, Im A Hero Too, who provided proof to the forums' moderators that they have access to reserved information, recently commented on the yet-to-be-revealed remake, saying that the game looks done and ready for release. Apparently, the game was supposed to release last Summer, but the COVID-19 pandemic, and the release of other games by Square Enix, got in the way. As of now, a release date still seems to be up in the air due to Final Fantasy VII: Rebirth, which will be the Japanese publisher's next big game following Final Fantasy XVI, which launches in a little over two weeks. Interestingly enough, the insider also revealed that there will be a movie related to the game in addition to the animated series, so it definitely sounds like Square Enix is going to push the remake quite a bit.
Speaking about the scope of the Final Fantasy IX remake, the insider suggested keeping expectations in check, as it is not a big-budget remake with cutting-edge visual features like ray tracing or anything of the sort. Still, it will look prettier than the original, it will run faster and will feature updated character models.
From all the information Im a Hero Too is sharing on the Final Fantasy IX remake, it seems like it will be the game to get for all series' nostalgic who aren't particularly keen on the action-focused direction the series took since Final Fantasy XV, as it will supposedly feature traditional gameplay. We will let you know more about the game as soon as any announcement is made, so stay tuned for all the latest news.
