The Batman's Robert Pattinson recently tried to explain the Final Fantasy VII love triangle to a less-than-enthusiastic Zoe Kravitz during an interview meant to promote their upcoming superhero mystery film. The former Twilight star-turned-defender of Gotham City has expressed his love of Final Fantasy VII in the past, explaining that a tragic moment in Final Fantasy VII actually made him cry the first time he played through Square Enix's landmark 1997 JRPG.
Part of what made the original Final Fantasy VII’s storyline so compelling was the complicated love triangle between the grim mercenary Cloud Strife and his two female squadmates: his childhood friend-turned-AVALANCHE member Tifa Lockhart and the mysterious flower girl Aerith Gainsborough. This complex relationship was one of many qualities that established the RPG as a classic and gave it such incredible staying power. Even decades after Final Fantasy VII’s release, fans are still divided about which girl Cloud should have ended up with, as both Tifa and Aerith are fairly popular Final Fantasy VII characters in their own right.
