Final Fantasy 16 is in its "final stages of development".
Despite having been announced back when the PS5 was first revealed back in 2020, we haven't seen any more of the game since then, only hearing small updates from some of the development team every couple of months. The last we heard about the game's development was back in October, when Yoshida said that the main scenario was "almost complete".

Thanks to a comment found by Yoshida in the pamphlet for UNIQLO's 35th-anniversary Final Fantasy collection, we now know that the game is much further along now than it was at the tail-end of last year. As translated by aitaikimochi, Final Fantasy 16 producer Yoshida Naoki said, "We're in the final stages of development for the new numbered game in the series, Final Fantasy 16. We aim to deliver a comprehensive game full of story and gameplay."
Yoshi-P continued to talk a little bit about the game's plot, saying, "Unlike an online game that involves many players at the same time, Final Fantasy 16 offers a different experience where it focuses on the individual player and immerses you in the story. I think it's a very fleshed out story. For those who have grown up and realised that reality isn't kind to you and have drifted away from Final Fantasy, we hope that Final Fantasy 16 will be a game that can bring back anew the passion you once had with the series."
Considering Yoshida's comments on Final Fantasy 16 being near the end of its development now, and what he had to say about the game late last year, it's looking increasingly likely that it might see a launch in 2022. Square Enix has been careful not to give any kind of date
