Final Fantasy 14 is finally launching on Xbox in just two days, but those delving in on Microsoft's platform will have to use a new premium currency called FFXIV Coins to make store purchases.
As reported by Eurogamer, these will be used for "service fees", which could mean monthly access, emotes, mounts, and costumes. You can purchase FFXIV Coins from the Microsoft Store and then use them in the Mog Station or FF14 Online Store.
When Playing Only the Xbox Series X|S Version, payments will be handled using FFXIV Coins only.
If you play on multiple platforms, i.e. PlayStation and PC, you can still use additional payment methods on the game's website. However, if you're purchasing anything on Xbox, FFXIV Coins are mandatory. They also won't be useable until after you log in, so you'll need to boot the game up to verify your purchase.
Controversially, you also need Game Pass to play Final Fantasy 14 on Xbox. This is on top of the $12.99 per month subscription to play the game, so once your free trial is up, you're looking at a minimum of $22.98 per month.
If you have Xbox Game Pass Ultimate, you can pick up FF14 Starter Edition to keep (including A Realm Reborn, Heavensward, and Stormblood) for free until April 19. The free trial lasts a month, so you have plenty of time to see if it's up your alley.
Square Enix's popular MMO, Final Fantasy 14: A Realm Reborn, has players step into the role of the Warrior of Light in the world of Eorzea. There, they find themselves testing their mettle against Primals, the Garlean Empire, the Ascians, and plenty of other threats.
This award-winning MMO now has multiple expansions to its name, with the most recent Endwalker expansion bringing the Hydaelyn/Zodiark arc to a close. Director and producer Yoshi-P has promised lots of plans for future content and the game has regular updates to keep players occupied.
