Final Fantasy 14 has confirmed and fixed a bug that has been pestering players for the better part of a year. In patch 6.25, paladins can no longer use their Guardian ability to become invincible in order to take control of points during PvP battles.
"In certain PvP duties, it was possible for players to interact with and take control of certain devices with little risk via the effect of Guardian used by a paladin," read the patch notes released earlier today. "As this was an unintended use of the action, Guardian will no longer have an effect on targets interacting with an object."

The Guardian ability should normally allow Paladins to rush up to allied players in order to tank damage intended for them. Instead, it just made paladins temporarily invincible, giving them an exceptional advantage in PvP. There were some ways around this bug, such as monks pushing them away from their Guardian target in order to break their link, but those solutions were often hard to employ in the heat of battle.
The issue has been known for months, but for some reason, Square Enix just never got around to fixing it. That's finally over in update 6.25, so PvPers can rest easy knowing the Paladin scourge is over.
Elsewhere in today's patch notes, there are more story quests including the continuation of the Hildibrand Adventures, which will also get players started on the latest relic weapons in the Manderville Weapons sidequest. There is new variant dungeon content including the new Sil'dihn Subterrane dungeon, as well as Omicron tribal and daily quests. Furnishings from the FF14 furnishing design contest have been added, and there's an adorable new lizard minion
