Final Fantasy 16 launched this week, and the reactions to the latest game in the long-running series have been pretty positive. Perhaps somewhat surprising as the new game is quite a bit different from almost everything to have come before it. Despite the differences between it and previous installments, Naoki Yoshida has kept the crossover joke going beyond release day.
“Congrats on the launch of the latest FINAL FANTASY! Once things settle down, we should chat about a collab,” Yoshida tweeted from Final Fantasy 16's official account. The joke here, which has been ongoing since Yoshida was first asked about it, is that since the Square Enix producer worked on both Final Fantasy 14 and Final Fantasy 16, he would need to have a meeting with himself to make the collaboration happen.

The comparisons you can draw between Final Fantasy 14 and 16 perfectly demonstrate how different the games are despite being part of the same series. 14 has an incredibly active online community with new content added on a regular basis. Final Fantasy 16, on the other hand, is entirely story-driven which means once the story is finished, most people will likely leave the game behind.
That means if there is going to be a collaboration, it'll most likely be elements of Final Fantasy 16 showing up in 14's world rather than the other way around. Those hoping Clive rocks up to help out might want to dial back their expectations, but perhaps Torgal can be the one to hop between worlds. Judging by the replies to Yoshi-P's tweet, that appears to be the most popular option if there is going to be a team-up between the two games.
