The next mainline entry in the Final Fantasy series may soon get a release date, as Final Fantasy XVI producer Naoki Yoshida has revealed that development on the game is almost complete. Square Enix has yet to give a release window for FF16, leading to concerns when a promised FF16 news update in 2021 was delayed to 2022.
FF16 was revealed during the PS5 Showcase event in 2020, yet there have been few updates regarding the game's progress since then. The reason why the 2021 update was delayed was due to the global pandemic, which also pushed back the development of the entire project by around half a year. A lot of games have been delayed by the pandemic, so most fans have been supportive of Yoshida and his team, especially as FF16 lacked a release window in the first place, meaning no exact dates were missed.

It seems that work on FF16 is wrapping up, which could mean a release date announcement is approaching. Twitter user Alberich_ff14 took a picture of an interview with Yoshida that was included during the Final Fantasy 35th anniversary Uniqlo clothing promotion, which was translated by VGC. According to the translation, Yoshida has confirmed the development of FF16 has entered its final stages. He didn't mention any specific release window for the game, as there is still a lot of work to do after the initial development process is completed, but fans are now speculating that there's a chance it could release in 2022.
