Vaas Montenegro (Far Cry 3) – Unsurprisingly, the character that started the Far Cry antagonist trend lands a spot on the top tier. With a backstory that’s fully fleshed out in Far Cry 6’s Insanity DLC and one of the most memorable performances in the franchise, Vaas is no doubt one of the best antagonists in the series.
Pagan Min (Far Cry 4) – Joining Vaas is none other than Pagan Min. He’s arguably the most unique villain in Far Cry given his complicated relationship with the protagonist. And like Vaas, his backstory is further explored in Far Cry 6’s Control DLC. Though he’s somewhat similar to Vaas in that he has his manic moments, Pagan Min is still distinct enough to be his own antagonist — and an excellent, one at that.
The Jackal (Far Cry 2) – The Jackal is an intriguing Far Cry antagonist. A powerful arms dealer supplying both sides of a war, his motivations are complex — not easily categorized as simply good or bad. What makes him most interesting, however, is the fact that he’s a returning character in the Far Cry series. Plus, the way he treats the player with such nonchalance fully knowing that they’re trying to kill him adds to his personality, and so does quoting Nietzsche.
