A fan's collection of Sonic the Hedgehog memorabilia has set a Guinness World Record as the largest collection in the world. The first Sonic the Hedgehog game released in 1991, and the franchise has gone on to become one of the biggest in the world, with lots of merchandise available for avid fans to collect. A remastered collection of early Sonic games, Sonic Origins, was announced earlier this month.
Sonic the Hedgehog is a gaming icon that has amassed a huge fan following over the three decades since his introduction in 1991. Sega's blue hedgehog with superspeed is instantly-recognizable across generations worldwide and has been featured in over 100 games ranging from its origins as 2D platformers, to 3D entries, and even sports games that see Sonic and fellow gaming icon Mario square off at the Olympic games. The character has also appeared in Saturday morning cartoons, comic books, and both animated and live-action movies, to name just a few of his outings. Although not all Sonic games have been successful, the franchise's widespread appeal and longevity is undeniable.

Franchise fan Barry Evans has amassed 3,050 Sonic the Hedgehog items in a collection recognized by Guinness World Records as the largest collection of Sonic the Hedgehog memorabilia in the world. Evans was presented with the world record on March 1, 2022, and recently took to Reddit under the name sonic1992 to proudly present their certificate in front of what is presumably a fraction of the collection.
