Looks like it’s F-Zero day at Nintendo, as the company has brought another batch of classic future racing to Nintendo Switch. F-Zero 99 has a big update adding tracks from the BS Satellaview, while Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack will soon grow to include the GBA games F-Zero: GP Legend and the Japan-only F-Zero Climax!
Available from 11th October, F-Zero: GP Legend and F-Zero Climax will be available in the GBA library for Switch Online. Developed by Suzak Inc., 2003’s F-Zero Legend added a story mode to the racing series based off the anime of the same name. This was followed a year later by the Japan exclusive F-Zero Climax – the last major game released in the venerable series.
Reviews of Climax were far from glowing at the time, the only major innovation was the addition to a track creator mode, and complaints over recycled assets and short tracks. However, it’s great to see this finally be localised for the West.
Before they arrive, F-Zero 99 has been updated with a fresh batch of tracks and a one-year anniversary event. The five tracks are all drawn from the Ace League of the BS F-Zero Grand Prix game, which was exclusive to the Super Famicom satellite adapter, Satellaview. Nintendo has also cooked up an anniversary event that has a string of award.
