What didGodzilla do after beating the MUTOs? Based on the synopsis for Apple TV+’s MonsterVerse show, it seems that the series will explore the period between the 2014 movie and its sequel, Godzilla: King of the Monsters. The second movie kicked off with a five-year time jump.
The events ofGodzilla changed the world by introducing humanity to the existence of the Titans. But instead of diving into that game-changing discovery, King of the Monsters skipped ahead to a point where humans had been aware of them for years. By the beginning of the film, 17 more hibernating monsters had been uncovered by Monarch, whose activities had recently become public knowledge. Apple TV+’s upcoming MonsterVerse series, on the other hand, is poised to go back in time by taking a deeper look at the time when Monarch was still a secret. Back then, humans were still reeling from the battle between Godzilla and the MUTOs at San Francisco.

The timeline of Apple TV+'s show raises questions about where Godzilla could fit into the picture. Some clues were provided by comments made in King of the Monsters and other cannon material. King of the Monsters prequel graphic novel Godzilla: Aftershock revealed that shortly after killing the first two, Godzilla battled an additional member of the MUTO species called MUTO Prime. Apparently, MUTO Prime was the creature responsible for the death of Dagon, the Godzilla ancestor whose skeleton was found in the Philippines in the beginning of the first movie. By killing MUTO Prime, Godzilla effectively avenged Dagon.
