There have been talks of a Metal Gear Solid movie since as early as 2006, but is it really happening? Based on the popular video game franchise created by Hideo Kojima, Metal Gear Solid has long been in talks for a movie adaptation. While those early talks stalled and the film changed hands a number of times, a 2020 announcement shows that Sony intends to go forward with the Metal Gear Solid movie adaptation.
The success of Netflix's The Witcher and the subsequent announcement of God Of War with Amazon and Horizon: 2047 with Netflix suggests a new breath of life for video game adaptations. Sony seems eager to capitalize on its intellectual property as they own the rights to Horizon Zero Dawn, Gran Turismo, God Of War, and Metal Gear Solid, all of which have plans for adaptations for streaming or film.
