Harry Shum Jr. has been added to the cast of Grey's Anatomy season 19. The show has been on the air since 2005 and is still one of the biggest series on television. While season 18 of the long-running medical drama received the lowest reviews since its inception, the show is still clearly a huge draw for ABC. This casting announcement comes months after a report that season 19 was being negotiated at the studio, as lead actress Ellen Pompeo had only signed on through season 18.
Now, Deadline has revealed that former Glee and Shadowhunters actor Harry Shum Jr. is joining season 19 0f Grey's Anatomy. He is set to play Daniel «Blue» Kwan, one of five new surgical residents at Grey Sloan. The character is described as witty and very intelligent. He is also extremely competitive and is currently dealing with an issue in his family. Kwan is working alongside four other residents, played by Midori Francis, Alexis Floyd, Adelaide Kane, and Niko Terho. Despite Pompeo herself wanting the show to end soon, it looks like Grey's Anatomy still has some stories left to tell.

Though season 19 of Grey's Anatomy will not debut until October, Shum is keeping very busy. This year he was in the hit A24 film Everything Everywhere All At Once. He will also be reprising his role of Charlie Wu in a Crazy Rich Asians spinoff movie alongside Gemma Chan. Outside of acting and dancing, Shum works with the Anti-Racist Children's Book Education Fund. Soon, he'll be able to add his role on Grey's Anatomy to his already impressive list of accomplishments.
