Disney has announced it's rebooting The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen, and here's everything that's known about the project so far. The reboot of League of Extraordinary Gentlemen will be penned by Red Sparrow writer Justin Haythe and audiences are surely hoping for it to be better than the first live-action attempt at the adaptation. The first time the story was put on the big screen was the 2003 adaptation of the story, which earned a solid return at the box office, but had such a troubled production that a sequel never happened.
The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen was originally penned as a comic book series by iconic writer Alan Moore and artist Kevin O'Neill. Set in an alternate Victorian world, it brings together multiple famous fictional characters from literature to go on top-secret missions. Among its characters are Mina Harker from Dracula, Allan Quartermain from H. Rider Haggard's novels, Captain Nemo from Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea, Hawley Griffin, a.k.a. the Invisible Man, Dr. Henry Jekyll/Mr. Hyde, and others. The steampunk-flavored comic book series was peppered with in-jokes and literary references.

The fun of seeing these iconic fictional characters interact was a big part of the series' appeal. Unfortunately, while there were flashes of this in the 2003 adaptation, it overall failed to enthrall. The production was also incredibly troubled; Sean Connery famously hated League of Extraordinary Gentlemen and his time on set.
