Super Mario, the popular and enduring video game character, is getting a new computer animated film — here’s everything to know about it. First announced in 2018, the Super Mario movie is a collaboration between Nintendo, Illumination, and Universal. While the film does not yet have an official title, it has already assembled a voice cast and is currently in production.
Mario and his brother, Luigi, have long been staples of video games. Created by Shigeru Miyamoto, Mario made his initial debut in 1981’s Donkey Kong before featuring in 1983’s Mario Bros. The first live-action film to feature Mario and Luigi was released in 1993 and starred Bob Hoskins as Mario and John Leguizamo as Luigi, with the plot following the brothers as they work to rescue Princess Daisy from King Koopa.
