Neversoft's take on the famous superhero was an early one, but it was also considerably less restrictive and more original in terms of its game design concepts. As fans wonder what Marvel's Spider-Man would be like on Xbox, it's also worth considering what Insomniac's modern superhero game may have looked like with a bit more Neversoft influence.
Although it went under in 2014, Neversoft is remembered by many gaming fans as one of the best games developers of the 2000s, known mostly for its work on the iconic Tony Hawk games. Much of the playfulness of those games carried into Spider-Man, which released in 2000 and was developed with the same engine. Spider-Man saw a few different versions on platforms like Nintendo 64, Dreamcast, and PC, but its PlayStation 1 version is generally considered the most fleshed-out, fully realized iteration. There were also direct sequels to this game, but Spider-Man 2000 was the only one developed by Neversoft. While many of the most popular Spider-Man games are open-world, this early release stands apart as a linear, level-based experience.

Marvel's Spider-Man has a stellar story, industry-leading graphics, satisfying combat design, and, of course, excellent web-swinging mechanics. All of these finely tuned elements, along with some others, combined to make one of the best superhero games of the modern era, but there are ways that it could have been even more interesting, creative, and memorable, and looking to Neversoft's more out-there
